2010

Well! It's a good start to a new year so far! Nothing much has happened to us lately. Byron is kicking off the new year with a overtime shift tonight, so hopefully it's a sign of good things to come (as in more overtime shifts this year than last year). This is his second night shift in about 6 months which is nice, seeing they're supposed to all have a rotation of night shifts every 3 weeks, but since he got his promotion last year, he hasn't been scheduled for nights! I'm not complaining, believe me! It's strange not having him home with me tonight. I actually was a bit bored! Usually there's someone here to talk to and share Sidney with, but oh well! I'm over it as in about 15 minutes from this line, I'll be enthralled in the TV show The Bachelor. Hehe, I know it's not the best, but hey! What can I say? It's addictive. I had a good holiday season. It was filled with lots of family which is nice to have around. It's amazing that we were able to get a first family picture of my family since the last one was taken almost 4 years ago, and 3 babe's have been added since then. I'm on my laptop, so I can't post the picture now, so I'll have to post it another time. We bought ourselves a laptop for Christmas. We're looking to get rid of the desktop so that I can have my cupboard back so I can store my vacuum cleaner and laundry baskets in there, instead of in the bottom of our closet. Yeah! I have to do a bunch of work though on the desktop yet as in backing up stuff we need and putting pictures on CD's. In time though! Sidney is growing so fast these days. Maybe not in height persay, but she's getting more and more interactive. She LOVES looking at books and "reading" them. She can roar like a lion most of the time when we do. Her words so far are Mummy, Daddy, Hi, Dog (her obviously favourite animal), D-oh (for NO), don't, she can woof, and I think that's all, but it's so cute to hear her say it all! She's really getting ready to walk these days. She walks behind her push-thingy, walks around everything, and loves to push a little step stool around. She's my big helper for a while now in loading and unloading the dishwasher, and has to be where I am in the kitchen for the most part, but I don't let her and I do put her by her toys, hoping to teach her to be in her space and I'll be in mine when I'm in the kitchen. She does well overall. She's just getting over having ANOTHER cold, so she's nicely sleeping through the night again. It came to the point that we took her into bed with us in the middle of the night when her cold was at it's worse, but we don't do that too often so she gets bad idea's in her head. Our bed is for us, not her! Just waiting to pull the sleeping bad out for her one day! No, not yet. I've had a nice relaxing week or so. We haven't really done a whole lot since Christmas. Last week we pretty well took it easy so that Sidney could get into a bit more of a routing after being tossed around visiting family every day, so it's been nice to be home. For New Years we headed to Lynden to hang out with a group of friends to eat and play games. We left around 1 as Byron had been up for 20 hours at that point and Sidney was wide awake. Byron just had a 5 day weekend, so he's been home since Friday. On friday we were invited to our neighbors for some fresh ollibollen. Mmm, it was sooooooo good! We played a game called Buzzword with 6 adults and 6 kids, so it was fun! We stayed for supper too as we had no other plans. Was a great time to kick off the new year! I should sign off as my show is going to start, but I'm going to close off with a story and a joke that was found posted on a Bredenhof relative's facebook status and a joke a friend left for people to read. Happy reading!

My husband asked our 6-year old what the sermon was about. She answered, "Grasshoppers". The sermon was on the definition of faith. All she heard was a bit of a sentence, "knee high to a grass-hopper".....She also wrote "She was sitting beside a friend and hardly caught a thing although both her and her little friend definitely caught the grasshopper part because I heard whispers of "hop, hop, hop, etc." with some suppressed giggling"

Now for the joke........A pastor was giving a lesson to a group of children on the 23rd Psalm. He noticed that one of the little boys seemed disquieted by the phrase "Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life..."
"What's wrong with that, Johnny?" the pastor asked.
"Well," answered Johnny, "I understand about having goodness and mercy, for God is good. But I'm not sure I'd like Shirley following me around all the time."

Another one I found....... A Sunday School teacher says, "so we know that Jesus is the answer to all our questions. Now onto something else. Class, I would like to turn your attention to this picture. Can anyone tell me what it is?"
And little Susie answers, "well Mrs. Smart, I know the answer's Jesus, but, well, it looks like a squirrel to me."

  2. Lucky you having olliebollen! This is the first year ever not having any. I'm going to have to get mom to break new year's tradition and make them mid-year when we visit. Yummy!
